Tack trunks. We need them. We use them. And sometimes abuse them. We personalize them with name plates and order covers in our barn's colors with a monogram or last name. Many friends have photos along with back numbers from special shows or classes tacked up on the inside of their trunk lids. I didn't want to put a push pin or tape directly in the top of my trunk lid (gives me anxiety just thinking about it!) so I came up with a solution! Not only do our trunks carry all the stuff we need like brushes, boots, hair nets, horse treats, show sheen, spurs, and the list could go on forever -- but it can also carry so many memories. The shows we've gone to and been successful or had a learning experience, the times you sit and talk with barn friends, a place to rest during a crazy show weekend and much more emotion can be tied to our trunks. I came up with a not-so-permanent or destructive way to carry those oh-so important memorabilia with us in our trunks. I bought these large squares of cork board, and cut 4 in. x 4 in. squares. I chose a dark-colored cork to match the outside of the trunk, but there's a couple different color options you can choose. I then used the Command Large Picture Hanging Strips which are essentially heavy duty plastic velcro that can cleanly and easily be removed from just about any surface. I applied two of the Command strips to the back of the 4 in. x 4 in. cork squares then applied to my trunk lid. I chose a fun diamond pattern, but if that doesn't strike your fancy you can do squares straight across. I centered one in the middle first then put the two other pieces on the outside. I pressed them in place quite firmly and held for maybe 15 seconds until I was somewhat confident it wouldn't just slide down the trunk lid. I closed and opened my trunk a few times to test my application and I'm proud to say each piece of cork was securely stuck to the lid! Now I just need to decide what mementos I'll feature on my trunk lid! What kinds of mementos do you keep in your trunk?

I loved reading your recent blog post on tack trunk decorations. The images you provided were absolutely stunning, and it was fascinating to see how creative you can get with just a few simple items. The tips you provided were really helpful, and I especially liked the idea of personalizing your tack trunk with stickers or decals.
