The equestrian industry is tough, no doubt about that. But there's a saying I've found that pushes me to keep heading towards my goals no matter what obstacles appear before me -- 'Hard works pays off.'
Whatever obstacles are in front of you, never stop reaching for your goals. Put in the time, the work, the effort, the sweat, and the tears. Life is not about the destination, it's about the journey. So relish in those rides that may not have gone as planned, the #FailFridays, the silly moments when you just can't help but laugh, maybe in frustration, because all the trials and tribulations will be more than worth it when you can say, "we did it!"
Success doesn't happen over night, it takes time. I think a lot of times we [collective, we] get caught up in showing, ribbons, championships and what division we're in, that we lose sight of what really matters -- the progress of you and your horse as a partnership. Make that partnership as solid as it can be and the rest will follow.
Take this video of Wow and I, for instance. It may not look like much to some, but I know what we've been through to get here; from the amazing lessons leaving me feeling excited for the next ride, to those that left me questioning what to do next. Perseverance, hard work and thoughtful application (and an amazing barn family and trainer!) have gotten me to this point. Now I'm even more excited for what the future has in store for us.
Happy riding,
